SFRL&L 2021- Security companies alongside logistics operators – Interview with Marco Stratta

The latest issue of essecome securindex 02/2021 has published an interview with Marco Stratta, Board Member of the Citizens Order entitled “Security companies alongside logistics operators.”

We repost a short excerpt:

The changing flow of goods to end consumers resulting from the spread of e-commerce accelerated by the pandemic has changed patterns and solutions for their physical security. From your vantage point, what are the most relevant changes and what responses can private security operators offer to the supply chain?
The pandemic has probably not expanded the range of goods in circulation but, simply, the modes of purchase and the parties of destination, while keeping the needs associated with transportation and, separately, logistics unchanged.
Volume growth, on the other hand, has been a constant for several years. “0-kilometer” goods are indeed a good thing, but that may apply to fruits and vegetables, while everything else has to travel thousands of miles to get from the producer to the consumer.
In a globalized market, where everyone can have everything, goods have to be transported all over the world.
Security thus becomes an essential element of the business environment , and as proof of this, one only has to look at the number of voluntary standards that have developed in recent years, starting with ISO 31000 on risk management and moving on to the 27000 series on information security and, of course, to 28000, which defines the security management system along an organization’s supply chain.
Warehouses, hubs, trains, trucks, planes-all need to be protected and controlled because they are “containers” for one of the most coveted prey in our day and age, consumer goods. Let’s imagine for a moment a trailer transporting iPhones12: would it or would it not deserve the escort that one would give to an armored car or an important work of art?
In addition to the awareness of security needs, there is the evolution of technology in the field of, precisely, security: satellite surveillance, apps, infrared barriers, thermal cameras, high-resolution cameras, etc., etc.
The technological element is now fundamental because it allows for performance combined with cost containment…
